Paul D'Arcy

PAUL D'ARCY is a Group 1 Classic winning trainer, based in Newmarket. Since starting out in 1998, Paul has achieved great success from a very small number of horses and has demonstrated his ability to achieve excellent results at the top level.

The pinnacle of Paul's training career thus far is the Irish 2000 Guineas win in 2003 of INDIAN HAVEN. Paul was responsible for buying INDIAN HAVEN as a yearling for 62,000 guineas and campaigning the horse to win the Free Handicap before winning in Ireland. There cannot be many trainers to have achieved such a feat from a yard of 20 horses.

Paul has always sought to gain valuable "black type" for fillies and has achieved it for NIGHT LILY, SUZI'S DECISION, KYLANE, LADY HIGH HAVENS, TORA BORA, CIRCLE OF LIGHT and TI ADORA.  The highlight of the 2015 season was the win of SHADOW HUNTER in the Listed Roses Stakes at York and her excellent third in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket.

Paul's record with handicappers is equally good, with the likes of multiple winners, SPRING LOADED, EDINBURGH KNIGHT, NIGHT LILY, NELSON'S BOUNTY, SIR DUKE, EASTERN BREEZE , TI ADORA and RED INVADER. Two year olds have also been successful including Group 2-placed LADY HIGH HAVENS, and Listed winners CALEDONIAN SPRING and FOREST MAGIC.

Paul's win strike rate is always excellent. In 2011 it was 12% with 20 winners, 21 seconds and 21 thirds.  Prize money won was over £143,000.  The highlight of that season were Listed races won by EDINBURGH KNIGHT and CALEDONIAN SPRING and the win of EDINBURGH KNIGHT at the very first Qipco Champions Day at Ascot.

In the last few seasons, Paul has teamed up to buy horses with Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock, top bloodstock agents and it has paid off, buying CALEDONIAN SPRING from the 2011 Goffs Ready-To-Run Sale and selling him on to Hong Kong.

Perhaps the main advantage to being in a small yard is the time to give individual attention to horses to identify their needs and to maximise their potential. Paul aims to get the very best from every single horse, no matter what its ability. Our owners are very valued and feel free to visit the yard at any time and actively participate in their horse?s training. Paul is an excellent communicator with his owners and is always accessible.

Paul's years as a jockey, riding for amongst others, SIR MICHAEL STOUTE, BARRY HILLS and SIR MARK PRESCOTT, stand him in better stead than most to assess a horse's ability and give him a another perspective on training.

Paul and wife Sue are a good team, dedicated to doing their best for their owners.

If you are interested in having a horse trained by Paul, be assured he will do a good job.

The Facilities

CHARNWOOD STABLES is a beautiful yard in Newmarket's Hamilton Road. The boxes are very light and airy with good ventilation and ensure that the horses are always very relaxed.

We have a mechanical horse exerciser and our own stalls. We have direct access out on to Newmarket Heath.

Sue D'Arcy runs the office and is Assistant Trainer. Paul and Sue are backed up by an excellent team.

The yard is sponsored by PETER & ROSS DOYLE BLOODSTOCK LTD. This sponsorship means that owners can register to reclaim VAT on horse purchase and training fees. It can also work in association with any existing sponsorship arrangements.
